The power of the mind

Brain anatomy can be rather complex. The function of the mind is extremely, and that is putting it lightly, complex. In fact, we hardly understand it. For centuries man has studied the mind trying to figure out all of it's intricacies, and it's vast utilities. We have become extensively aware of so many aspects of thinking and psychology, as well as physiology. But, all that really means is that we have mapped out the brain, it's role in function of the body, plus we have had centuries of documented behavioral research. Information is available to us through texts (that means books too, for all of you Gen-Z'ers), through papers, experiments, and now even the world wide web. Yet with all that we do know about the brain and the mind, there is so much we don't know. Also, there is so much we know that we don't fully understand. Confusing, yeah I know. Let me use an example. We know that the mind can have an influence on the outcome of a medical problem or illness. That has been observed, to use an industry term. Yet we do not understand neither the exact reason, nor the possibilities of such a result. We can heal using the power of our mind. Exactly what the limitations are with this idea, is yet to be determined. We know so much, and yet we know so little. It is fascinating really that we can do that, heal with our mind, I mean. Story after story in our history will tell of people not giving up, or pushing themselves to conquer a serious disease, an injury, or some other life challenge. Books such as The Power of Positive Thinking, or The Secret can uplift us and guide us.

Then there's the flip side. The mind can help us do many things, when we can find a way to use it to our advantage, but it can also do harm. Sadly there are also so many stories you will read about, or hear that show how we can hurt ourselves through thought. That is the topic of my blog today. Lately we have been told constantly of the lives that are being lost to this pandemic we are living. Everyday more and more people are dying for many reasons. Unfortunately for some, it has to do with the availability of resources, or lack thereof. Some countries just don't have enough, or in some cases, any resources to help those in the most need. Even in places where there are enough resources, still people succumb to the aggressiveness of this virus. We have been told that only those with underlying conditions, or resistance challenges will be the ones to die from COVID-19. However, now we are also hearing of healthy people not making it through the illness. I believe that those that are dying after contracting the virus, but did not have any other health issues, may be due to negative thinking.

I have read stories of young kids, couples, or even older previously healthy people dying from the Corona Virus that had all of the help they needed, and still died. I honestly believe that they were affected by negative thoughts worsening their symptoms. Just the same way we can lift a car off of a toddler, or get a filling without novocaine, we can make an illness worse. All of the negative energy that surrounds us today mostly because of the media can cause a person to have more fear of their own outcome. Since there is a common fear that you can die from this, as it is a reality, some will focus on that alone. When you are sick, and not feeling like fighting, a prognosis can turn grim quickly. We all feel illness and symptoms differently. Combine that with where the mind can take you when you don't feel right, and there are infinite possibilities of results. Someone may be healthy as can be, but not react well mentally to illness or adversity. If one focuses on the worst case scenario too much, they may just invoke the wrong kind of energy. Once that happens things can really take a downward spiraling course.

The moral of the story is to keep a positive attitude if you, God forbid, end up with this virus. It is not always a death sentence. Far from it for most people. Most people will have only mild symptoms and some none at all, and most will recover on their own. You only need to go to a hospital if you have an underlying condition, or you develop life threatening symptoms. Most people will not develop these symptoms. Since we only hear of those that did though, we are vulnerable to our minds channeling to the worst possibilities. We must use our mind to our benefit at all times. If we know it is possible that positive thinking will help us, and negative thinking will hurt us, there really is only one logical choice. It does take a lot of effort for most people to do it, but practice is the key. The more we apply this principle in our lives, the more we can rewire our mind to always do that automatically. So remember, if you do get an illness, believe in your ability to get through it. COVID-19 is not a reason to give up. As I said, most people will get through this like if it was just a cold. You are only hearing of those that are struggling, and the ones that don't make it. There are so many more hundreds of thousands that have already, or are going to eventually recover with hardly any difference from other illnesses.

Be strong of mind and spirit. We are going to get through this regardless of what things may seem like now. Allow yourself to control your outcomes and desires through the power of positive thinking. Everyone will benefit from everyone doing this. We will all be together with those we love and care about soon. America will conquer the Crown (Corona). Someone can start a #AmericaConquertheCrown thing. LOL. God bless you all.
